Pat Gohn’s experience as a speaker is both professional and ministerial.  Her years on-air and in the studio as a radio broadcaster taught her the power of the spoken word to both inform and entertain. As a church leader and staff member, she’s learned the power of the Word of God to transform lives.

After experiencing a conversion to Christ in her teen years, Pat began giving talks at Catholic retreats and seminars at age 16. Since then, her presentation skills as a Christian broadcaster, coupled with her years of lay leadership in church ministries for women and families, has given her a wealth of experience speaking to numerous groups for a variety of occasions.

Besides being a guest speaker, she has been both a retreat leader or a master of ceremonies for special events. When the need arises, Pat also works with  parish retreat team members to write or edit their talks for content and clarity.

A Catholic writer with a Masters in Theology, Pat is committed sharing her enthusiasm for Christ and Church teaching as articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, both in person, on radio, online, and in print.  Look for her podcasts, Among Women now available at iTunes or AmongWomenPodcast.com, and Catholic GPS currently in development.

The Heart of Catechesis is Christ

"At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son from the Father. . .who suffered and died for us and who now, after rising, is living with us forever."

To catechize is "to reveal in the Person of Christ the whole of God's eternal design reaching fulfillment in that Person. It is to seek to understand the meaning of Christ's actions and words and of the signs worked by him."' Catechesis aims at putting "people . . . in communion . . . with Jesus Christ: only he can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity."

In catechesis "Christ, the Incarnate Word and Son of God,. . . is taught - everything else is taught with reference to him - and it is Christ alone who teaches - anyone else teaches to the extent that he is Christ's spokesman, enabling Christ to teach with his lips. . . Every catechist should be able to apply to himself the mysterious words of Jesus: 'My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.' [John 7:16].

Quotes taken from John Paul II’s Catechesi Tradendae, 5, as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 426, 427.
